Meet the Directors
Laura Wheless (Head Director) currently serves as the director of choirs at Krum ISD. She has served as a choral director for over 18 years. Ms. Wheless graduated magna cum laude from Hardin-Simmons University with a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance and Acting. She received her Masters in Choral Conducting with a concentration in Music Education from Southern Methodist University where she graduated summa cum laude. Ms. Wheless studied choral conducting under Dr. Pamela Elrod-Huffman, Dr. Robert Bode, Mr. Lloyd Hawthorne, and Mr. Jim Moore. She has conducted, cliniced, and adjudicated choirs all over the world. Not only has she been a frequent soloist, she has performed in numerous choirs overseas, as well as at the Texas Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association.
Prior to her work at Krum High School, Ms. Wheless held positions at Webb Middle School, O’Banion Middle School in Garland, Texas and RL Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas. She also serves as a vocal coach, vocal instructor, music theory tutor, and piano teacher at the Gray’s School of Music in Dallas, Texas.
Ms. Wheless is proud to have grown up in the Texas public school system. She attended Irving High School, Irving, Texas under the direction of Mr. Jim Moore. She credits her early passion for music to her own mother, Janie Wheless, and high school choir director, Jim Moore.
Choirs under Ms. Wheless's direction consistently receive sweepstakes at UIL concert and sight-reading competitions. Each year her students place in the All-Region choir and All-State performing ensembles. Her choirs have received superior ratings and “Best in Class” recognitions at Music Festivals throughout Texas. She is an active adjudicator and clinician, and a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity, and Pi Kappa Lambda (National Music Honors Society).
Emily Sabetti (Assistant Director) currently serves as the assistant director of choirs at Krum ISD. Ms. Sabetti graduated summa cum laude from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors of Music Education in Vocal and Choral Studies. Prior to studying at the university, Ms. Sabetti attended Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, TX, where she grew her passion for choral music and education.
Ms. Sabetti has performed in choirs at national conventions and overseas, and is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, and Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity.
