The Krum Band began in 1991 with a partnership between the University of North Texas and Krum ISD. Dr. Roger Warner, former Dean of Music and Carol Turner, UNT Teaching Fellow, started the program with 50 students in 7th and 8th grade. In the 30 years since, the Krum Band has grown to 300 students in 6th - 12th grade. The Krum Band is a seven time finalist in the TMEA Honor Band Contest including four consecutive runner-up placements. The Krum Band has had success in the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest advancing 101 students to the state contest in 2015. The Krum Band program offers a Jazz Band and routinely places 8-10 students in the Region 2 Jazz Band.
The Marching Blue Brigade was formed in 2012. In the 9 years since its formation, the Krum Band has only received UIL Superior Ratings. The Blue Brigade was named back to back grand champion at the Aubrey Marching Classic in 2016 and 2017. In 2019 the Blue Brigade was named grand champion at the Ponder Marching Contest. The Krum Band has earned multiple classification awards including the Class A Champion at the 2016 Broken Arrow Marching Contest and back to back Class A Champions at the 2018 and 2019 Bands of America DFW Regional.
The Krum Band has developed material that will align curriculum from 6th grade beginner band through 12th grade band and beyond. This cluster wide "spiraling" curriculum will ensure that all band students are mastering the same objectives at the middle school campus culminating in the advanced objectives in high school to prepare students for college level performance.
All Krum Band Directors work at the high school and middle school campuses. Each director teaches beginner classes on their specialty instrument. All directors participate in all full ensemble classes. The Krum Band offers a comprehensive private lesson staff mostly of Doctoral students from the University of North Texas.
