Meet the Directors

Laura Wheless (Director) currently serves as the director of choirs at Krum ISD. She has served as a choral director for over 18 years. Ms. Wheless graduated magna cum laude from Hardin-Simmons University with a Bachelors of Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance and Acting. She received her Masters in Choral Conducting with a concentration in Music Education from Southern Methodist University where she graduated summa cum laude. Ms. Wheless studied choral conducting under Dr. Pamela Elrod-Huffman, Dr. Robert Bode, Mr. Lloyd Hawthorne, and Mr. Jim Moore. She has conducted, cliniced, and adjudicated choirs all over the world. Not only has she been a frequent soloist, she has performed in numerous choirs overseas, as well as at the Texas Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association.  

Prior to her work at Krum High School, Ms. Wheless held positions at Webb Middle School, O’Banion Middle School in Garland, Texas and RL Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas. She also serves as a vocal coach, vocal instructor, music theory tutor, and piano teacher at the Gray’s School of Music in Dallas, Texas.

Ms. Wheless is proud to have grown up in the Texas public school system. She attended Irving High School, Irving, Texas under the direction of Mr. Jim Moore. She credits her early passion for music to her own mother, Janie Wheless, and high school choir director, Jim Moore.

Choirs under Ms. Wheless's direction consistently receive sweepstakes at UIL concert and sight-reading competitions. Each year her students place in the All-Region choir and All-State performing ensembles. Her choirs have received superior ratings and “Best in Class” recognitions at Music Festivals throughout Texas. She is an active adjudicator and clinician, and a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity, and Pi Kappa Lambda (National Music Honors Society).

Brent Hall (Assistant Director) serves as the current assistant director of choirs for the Krum Independent School District. He has served as a choral director for two years. Mr. Hall graduated from Harding University with a Bachelors of Music Education (Instrumental) with a dual certification in both vocal and instrumental music. He frequently performs as a vocalist, instrumentalist, and soloist throughout the nation. During his time at Harding University, he was awarded music educator of the year two years in a row.

Prior to teaching in Krum ISD, Mr. Hall was born and raised in the city of Krum as an alunmi of the 2015 graduating class. He performed in the Krum Barbershop Quartet which frequently sang the national anthem. They have performed for athletic activities in the district, Northwest Lineman College, and even in the American Airlines Center--home of the Dallas Mavericks. He was also a proud member of the Bobcat Band as a french horn player and even a member of the very first Krum Blue Brigade Marching Band in 2011. He loves this city and is so excited to be a part of this community once again.

Mr. Hall served his first two years of teaching in Dover, Arkansas as an assistant of choirs for the Dover School District and hopes to continue his pursuit of choral excellence during his time here.
